Programs: Net zero energy homes: in 2014 green/spaces acquired property on which to design and build a series of homes that will produce as much energy as they consume to educate local building professionals, drive demand for environmentally responsible and healthy homes in the market, and demonstrate to residential developers that this type of home can be built and sold through conventionally available construction and financing methods.
the low-impact development awards and green infrastructure competition were part of a partnership program between green/spaces and the city of chattanooga to execute a design competition to introduce local building professionals to regulations that will soon be required as a way to test the application of those requirements and to develop the necessary skill set to implement the best practices required to meet strict new stay-on-volume requirements.
empower chattanooga is the city's entry into the georgetown university energy prize, a nationwide competition for cities to develop plans to reduce per-capita energy consumption. Green/spaces is focusing on low-income neighborhoods to amplify the benefit of energy savings in neighborhoods that not only experience high energy use, but also safety, health, and education challenges among others. In 2014, green/spaces prepared the program plan to be implemented in 2015 and 2016.
