Mission: Empower all local communities utilizing a systems and evidence-based approaches to improve overall health and wellness for all greenbrier county residents. We will accomplish our mission through innovation action,education,resource sharing and advocacy.
Programs: Community ambassadors - greenbrier county health alliance supports community leaders from across the county in planning projects to make their communities healthier. The community ambassadors are linking with resources, learning together and supporting each other to take action. Greenbrier county health alliance promotes community engagement through specific investments in target communities. We offer training opportunities, resource coordination, and mini-grant funds to support: 1) access to fresh local foods; 2) local workshops for people with diabetes and other chronic conditions; and 3) the design and implementation of grassroots projects to improve health.
self management - the live well greenbrier project is a greenbrier county health alliance initiative to engage communities across greenbrier county to become healthier. As part of this initiative, an evidence based curriculum developed by stanford university is being used to train leaders and support community partners to conduct self-management workshops within their community. Working under a stanford program license agreement with the wv school of osteopathic medicine, center for rural and community health, the alliance is disseminating the chronic disease self-management program (cdsmp) and diabetes self-management programs (dsmp) across the county.
local foods - greenbrier county health alliance works to increase access to healthy local food for county residents. Gcha worked wih local farmers markets to establish a sustainable gleaning program that added fresh local produce to the meals served at senior centers and meals on wheels across the county.
