There are several things that just don't add up with this "non-profit." First, the President was making up to $500,000 for an organization with around $2 million in revenue. And according to their 990, almost nothing was going back to the community. Since that was discovered and reported by the City Paper Here( http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/articles/39581/the-greater-washington-sports-alliance-ceo-gets-hefty-city-subsidized ) the salary has been cut back to about $230k per year. That's still pretty high.
But another sticky part of the picture, this non-profit rents space from an LLC owned by the Sports Alliance Founders and Board members. And from the 990 in 2011, you can see they spent around $800,000 on renovating the space... that is OWNED by the board members.
While I am sure they have found some loopholes to work around here, I would not recommend anyone donate to this organization and their involvement with city officials that are now in jail for stealing from DC taxpayers and fraud, and I’d say getting involved with them at all is a liability.
