Mission: The missoula family ymca's mission is to put christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The y serves families and individuals of all ages, abilities, incomes, races and religions. We are for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, and offer programs that promote healthy lifestyles, strong values, leadership development, community-building, and international connections. Our y makes the commitment that all can participate, regardless of ability to pay, and provided more than $500,000 in direct financial assistance so that more than 5,000 low-income children, families and individuals could participate in y programming, membership and child care. The missoula family ymca is founded and led by volunteers from our community; volunteers also serve as mentors, coaches, program leaders, instructors and more. The donated time, talent and energy of more than 2,000 volunteers made the work of the y possible.
Programs: Healthy living: the greater missoula family ymca is improving the community's health by ensuring that everyone has access to quality programs and membership. With a mission centered on balance of the spirit, mind and body, the y encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, and shared interests, to achieve greater health and well-being. Healthy living is so much more than being physically active; it is about creating harmony. At the y we help our neighbors work towards that by providing opportunities to learn a new skill, make personal connections with friends, work towards better health, or bringing loved ones closer together through our family-center activities. At the y, it is not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier.
youth development: all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. At the y, thousands of youth in missoula and surrounding counties are cultivating the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, and lifelong achievements. The y focuses on nurturing the potential of every youth and teen. Childcare at the y is about more than looking after kids. It is about nurturing their development, providing a safe place to learn, developing health, and trusting relationships, and building self-reliance. The y offers children and families water safety skills, sports, play time, educational and leadership development activities, top of the line childcare, and life-changing camp experiences.
social responsibility: the greater missoula family ymca has been listening and responding to our communities' most critical social needs since 1967. Through the y, thousands of volunteers, donors, leaders, and partners across missoula are empowering others to be healthy, confident, connected, and secure. The y is about giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Every year our community faces a new challenge that creates a need for the work that we do. The y continues to keep our promise to our neighbors, that no one is ever turned away based on their inability to pay.
