Mission: GEEDC's purpose is to encourage and assist the creation of minority business; to provide access to economic and business development assistance for prospective ownership; to provide training opportunities for unemployed and underemployed persons, and to provide scholarship support to youth and other non-traditional students attending colleges, universities and other training institutions that confer degrees and certificates
Programs: The greater erie economic development corporation supports and advocates for the improvement of communication, education and job opportunities for minorities and individuals in the erie community. Geedc provided support for classroom renovations for a local university's transitions program, a program offering college prepatory classes to assist individuals in their transition to post-secondary studies. Geedc also provided a grant to another local university to address youth violence and mental health concerns within the city of erie's high school and middle school population. In addition, geedc provided support for youth football clinic designed to steer youth away from risky behaviors through the use of sports to enforce educational enrichment, character building, and discipline. Geedc also provides financial assistance to students attending colleges and universities and other training institutions such as duquesne university, edinboro university, mercyhurst university, indiana univer rental expense - provides space for other non-profit organizations to help them carry out their mission at reduced rates.
