Mission: GCHESC''s mission is to improve the health status of minority resident in Greater Cleveland by providing: health education, health screenings and support of individuals and communitites to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. To ensure that health care providers stay abreast of the trends in minority health care by providing continuing education through seminars and workshops.
Programs: The program goals of GCHESC are specific to the individual health education programs funded by a specific grantor. The general goals are: (1) Educate and support individuals and communitites to take action to reduce their cardiovascular risk, (2) Home and Center based child care providers and the parents of the children in their care will establish smoke free environments, (3) Glenville families who participate in the Berea Children's Home, Early Start Program will establish a smoke free environment, (4) Adults and youth who smoke and receive services from Asia Inc. will enroll in a culturally specific smoking cessation progrm and make quit attempts, (5) Lupus patients, their family, friends and significant others will be provided an education and supportive environment to disucss the challenges of living with Lupus. The program sites are faith-based institutions, barbershops, Cleveland Muncipal Schools, Euclid Public Schools, Cleveland Recreation Centers, J. Glen Smith Health Center, and individual homes in Glenville who receive services provided by Berea's Children Home.
