Mission: Our mission is to promote the protection and enhancement of water quality and water resources in the great lakes. Freshwater future builds effective community-based initiatives to protect and restore the water quality of the great lakes basin.
Programs: The grants program provides financial support to activities that actively promote river, lake, and wetland and groundwater protection, climate adaptation activities and preparatory expenses for applying for federal great lakes restoration initiative grant funding. Five different funding programs supported 62 projects. Typical project activities include efforts to restore wetlands and reviewing a permit application for a mine in michigan.

Education and opportunities for citizens to educate their elected officials regarding prevention of asian carp, coordination to protect water resources from resource extraction activities, reducing phosphorus pollution impacting lake erie, and protecting drinking water resources.
provided workshops and one-on-one assistance to local groups through professional support. This assistance helped to build organizational skills to run the organizations effectively and efficiently. Specific assistance examples include strategic plan development, fundraising strategy development, supporter database selection and succession planning.
