Mission: The purpose of the council is to engage in, assist and contribute to the support of economical and industrial development of the city of graettinger, iowa, including the assistance, encouragement and preservation of existing businesses and industries as well as promoting, assisting and developing affordable housing and other worthwhile projects for community betterment.
Programs: Grocery store - in 2005, a grocery store opened in graettinger. The council helped the owners by finding financing for their operation. A few expenses were incurred by the council in 2006 in order to insure the continued success of the store. In 2007 the store was deeded back to the graettinger economic development council. The council is actively seeking a buyer to take over the store.

medical clinic - the organization leases real property to the palo alto county hospital, a non-profit organization, for use as a medical clinic. This service improves the quality of life for many residents in graettinger including retired folks and families with children.
