Mission: The mission of the governor's foundation for health and wellness is to encourage and enable more tennesseans to lead healthier lives.
Programs: The healthier tennessee communities program was launched in march 2015 with nine pilot communities. At the end of june 2017, there were 97 communities across the state that were participating. The initiative is geared towards creating healthier cities, towns, counties, and neighborhoods at the grassroots level. Each community must form a committee that drives the effort. They must develop and implement seven healthy initiatives - three focused on increasing physical exercise, three focused on better nutrition, and at least one focused on tobacco abstinence. The initiatives must be measurable, sustainable, and available to the entire community. There are seven regional directors who are responsible for recruiting and supporting communities.
the governor's foundation for health and wellness continued to communicate its key messages through non-paid, news media coverage of programs and services, including articles and photographs in daily and weekly newspapers, newsletters, and other media outlets. It also sustained its on-line presence through its website and the use of social media outlets that included facebook, twitter, and instagram. At the end of the fiscal year, there were more than 75,000 individuals who had accessed at least once the foundation's web-based tools, called "small starts, and an app developed by the foundation called "streaks for small starts. " more than 1,500 workplaces had accessed its on-line tools for employee wellness, and more than 400 faith-based organizations that had accessed its tools for wellness programs at places of worship.

" this resource provides tips and tools that are divided into four health-related categories - nutrition, physical activity, tobacco abstinence, avoidance of second-hand smoke, dental and oral hygiene, and better sleep.
