Programs: G2l's community health workers (chw) are trusted community members trained as health workers who operate outside of clinics to provide culturally relevant education, referrals and social support for healthy behaviors. The application for chws is endless - from exercise classes to financial capability training, chws are trained to adapt to the needs of their communities. The chw program served over 300 clients in 2017.
the food innovation network enhances the local food system and increases access to healthy food. In 2017, fin started a food business incubator program that supported the launch of 7 low-income entrepreneurs, opened a farm stand in an area with limited food access, hosted 5 community food events that over 250 people participated in, and provided over 15 presentations throughout the community on food access resources.
in 2017 global to local served as the fiscal sponsor for the congolese integration network (cin), a newly formed community based organization that supports the health and social integration of immigrants and refugees from congo. G2l and cin jointly piloted a conditional cash transfer program that provided rent assistance and case management support from a community health worker to 21 congolese families. Many participants in this program obtained health insurance for the first time, and all reported significant improvements in their ability to access and navigate the healthcare system. Participants also saw positive changes in many of the social determinants of health that impact their lives, such as housing, employment, and financial stability.
