Causes: International, International Exchange
Mission: We link Arkansas to the world to build a state that is a thriving part of the global community
Results: In 1980 we organized a teacher exchange between Bremen, Germany and Arkansas, where Arkansas teachers taught classes, and then visited East Berlin before the wall was torn down. We have provided reverse exchanges such as the Mid-South in the Schools project for Japan, through East Asian Studies, several trips for Arkansas teachers to China through the University of Arkansas Little Rock program with Martha Morton, and in recent years provided reverse exchanges to other asian countries, as well as Russia, Ukraine, and the republic of Georgia. In 2016 through 2018 we hosted young Latin American and Caribbean island entrepreneurs that brought about four reverse exchanges in the latter two years of that program. We have to thank the local worksite hosts they were partnered with who made the entrepreneurs' projects back home a reality.
Target demographics: those rising leaders implement what they learn in Arkansas back in their part of the globe.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 116 international visitors to Arkansas. We also provide reverse exchange opportunities for local professionals, and were able to facilitate six of these exchanges last year.
Geographic areas served: the field of Citizen Diplomacy, receiving rising professional leaders in governmental, cultural, non-profit, & business fields through the U.S. Department of State
Programs: Professional appointments for international leaders in the fields of (for example) public health, intellectual property, multi-region human & civil rights, professional fellows and Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative programs, youth, agriculture, and other programs.
