Mission: Provide produce to people who are hungry or lack access.
Programs: Faith feeds of kentucky, inc. , d/b/a gleanky partners with 36 agencies/programs/individuals in lexington to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to augment or create hunger programs at 48 distribution sites. We provide this fresh produce from partnerships with groceries, farmers' markets, wholesale distributors, as well as farms and orchards in fayette and surrounding counties. Volunteers pick up produce the sources are no longer able to sell, but are still completely edible. The gleaning process is accomplished by volunteers who go to the sources, pick up or harvest the produce and then disperse them to different locations for hot meals or distribution, faith feeds/gleanky's target audience is the homeless, marginally housed, and low-income individuals and families who rely on hunger programs to provide food on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, many of these recipients live in food deserts and do not have access to adequate food, especially fresh produce. Our target recipient distribution sites are churches, pantries, and agencies that may or may not be supplemented from other sources. The meal programs alone reach over 24,000 fayette county residents a month, and places like god's pantry support over 211,000 across kentucky. Our goal is to end hunger in kentucky, starting with fayette county. We hope to do this by providing every fayette county resident with access to nutritional fresh fruits and vegetables. This practice is a sustainable solution to food insecurity in lexington since the sources of these donations are wasted foods.
