A committed couple from florida funded 20 more homes for the victims of the devastating earthquake in bohol. 109 homes, site development, repairs and water systems were funded in over 12 different communities in the philippines to assist families living in slum environments that further degrade their dignity as human beings.
special projects - other gk usa funded special projects in 2016. A microsoft grant of $9,800 for gawad kalinga philippines. The grant will be used to deliver introduction to coding sessions through the hour of code/#digigirlz, and to conduct digital literacy and productivity skills training on microsoft office to young girls in gk communities and gk-affiliated schools all over the country. The innovate:youth spark grant of $95,500 aims to develop computational thinking (ct) skills through comprehensive leadership training and an entrepreneurial social business camp. Kusina ng kalinga (care kitchen) is gks anti-poverty campaign to end hunger among filipino children. The overwhelming generosity and donations in 2015 flowed over into 2016 and together enabled gk usa to raise over $65,460. This amount will feed over 900 children for one year. Other projects that included immersion trips, medical missions and gk internships were funded at $11,226.
productivity - gkonomics is an initiative which seeks to develop innovative social and business enterprises that will tap and harness the resources available in gk communities in the philippines and the vast global gk network. Through a donation to gk usa ($24,684), salaries and operating expenses of gkonomics enterprise coordinators were covered. These enterprise coordinators work hand in hand with gk residents, partners, and volunteers to develop world-class, marketable, and eco-friendly products and services. Additional funds of $14,659 were raised for livelihood projects such as a fishpond, shrimp bottling, sewing and handmade bath soap making.
