Generations Music and Arts Academy does a great job of making both teachers and students feel welcome in a space that allows growth. As a teacher in the after-school programs that GMAA Provides services to, I see students pick up new skills related to music, such as rhythm, general music notation, and music-creating skills. Through this learning, students form bonds with each other and us teaching artists, allowing students to be inspired and confident enough. Teaching at both after-school programs, and for homeschool students has become my inspiration to be better in any creative skill I know, as I remember being their age and being curious about the arts. Learning programs such as Generations Music and Arts Academy are necessary in our communities, as a way to let young minds dabble in this creativity and discover their talents.
As a recent college graduate interested in pursuing music education and research, GMAA has provided me with opportunities that have exceeded my expectations. They have given me support as I manage being a music educator, a scholar, and a mentor for the community we serve. I love that their focus is not only in music and the arts but also in creative youth development, which is what makes GMAA different than other music academies. The staff here is very supportive and collaborative as a whole, I have learned so much from them and I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge.
As an up and coming artist in the Bay Area, Generations Music and Arts Academy has a fantastic program in which allows teaching artists and students alike to grow and develop. Within the last couple of months I, personally as well as my students have grown and become better versions of ourselves creating confidence I hadn't been able to even achieve . As a teacher in the programs that GMAA has to offer, I've witnessed students becoming capable of doing things that prior, they would state they were uncapable of. Through these programs we create relationships with these students in which they become more open and more curious often leading to more confidence within them, exploring endless possibilities of what is possible! My time so far at GMAA has only inspired me and pushed me to attain more as an artist. Way back when I was the students age, I remember always being passionate and curious about music, however not having access to any music program deterred me from pursuing further then. Which is why, it is so important for places like GMAA to exist! A place where the youth can develop skills such as being open minded to learning, collaborating, performing, and even just having someone that believes they can do this! A place where the youth can let their mind run free with curiosity and creativity. Though like any place, there is some challenges, especially as this is my first year as a teaching artist, The leadership always has my back and I don't need to struggle on my own. I learned to teach for the first time because of how caring this organization is to ensure we succeed and give our students the best of us. Never in a million years would I have considered becoming an Educator, But through my time here and seeing my students gain my trust, grow and perfect their craft while becoming outstanding musicians, I have a new found passion for teaching.
I have been taking private violin lessons and I have utmost respect to my teacher and everyone at Dandan Perfoming Arts. The staff and all the teachers take extra time in making their students learn and make us well prepared for concerts and recitals. Dandan Performing Arts exceeds my expectations. The classes are so much fun. As one of the older students, I feel like I am given the greatest opportunity to excel and I feel like a child again as I interact with the younger students. As one of the board members of this organization, I feel that I did the right non profit organization to join. I would recommend this school to parents, friends and colleagues.
