Causes: Art Museums, Arts & Culture
Mission: To interpret the distinctive cultural heritage of gaston county and the region through historic preservation and the collection and conservation of artworks and artifacts. The museum strives to inspire diverse audiences to understand their shared heritage and to consider ideas and issues which link the past and present to the future.
Programs: Halloween trick or treat event - the town of dallas shuts down the streets as vendors and stores open up for children of all ages to come and trick or treat. Museum staff dresses in period attire and hands out candy to trick or treaters. There were goodie bags provided to those who visted the museum. A special program was presented based on the past owners of themuseum entitled the hoffman hauntings ghost tour. Admission was $3 per person. Approximately 70 individuals attended the program and over 3500 individuals participated in the trick or treating. Mayfair on the square is held in conjunction with the town of dallas and offers food vendors, antique cars, and live music, artisans, games, storytellers and more bringing the historic court square alive! The music of gastonia symphonic orchestrapresentation was a highlight of the event. Over 500 people attended this event. The event also included storytellers that were funded by a grant from the arts council for $1,200. Four-time grammy award winner david holt and rising acoustic music star and grammy nominee josh goforth presented an outdoor concert on the town square on july 16, 2016. The event was sponsored by the town of dallas. The concert was free to the public and 378 people attended. The town of dallas provided $4,000 in sponsorship monies. Gaston countytravel and tourism contributed $1,600 for the summer concert series.
