Mission: -the gardiner library board of trustees operates the public library that serves the town of gardiner and the surrounding areas of new york state.
Programs: The gardiner library provides free library services to the residents of the town of gardiner and the surrounding areas. It services approximately 3,000 people. As stated in its mission statement the library's purpose is "to provide materials and services to meet the educational, cultural and social needs of our growing community. The library facilitates personal and professional enrichment, internet access and provides a center for community activities. In particular, the gardiner library recognizes its responsibility to encourage the love of reading in gardiner's children, and by so doing, help foster their development into literate, informed citizens. " it accomplishes these program services by purchasing books, magazines, newspapers, audio and video recordings, and providing computer terminals for internet access. There are programs for children, such as story times with 50-60 children per week for 40 weeks, summer reading programs for elementary school aged children, chess club with 10-20 children per week, and various other club activities. Due to its collection of books and other records, members of the public use the library for research. There are also various programs for adults including lectures, art exhibits, opera club and adult yoga classes. Since there is no way to accurately track the expenses of the library, various estimates are used to allocate expenses between program services, management and general expenses and fundraising expenses.
