Mission: To support the fulton county medical center's mission to continuously improve the health of our community.
Programs: The purpose of the fulton county medical center foundation (foundation) shall be exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes permitted within the scope of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code of 1986, as amended, (the "code") primarily including, but not limited to supporting the promotion and facilitation of health, wellness, and medical care for the citizens of fulton county and the surrounding service area. The function of the foundation is to receive and manage funds from the following possible sources: endowments, charitable gift annuities, community support, trusts, and bequests. These funds may be dispersed through the following programs: fcmc community benefit programs, gifts and grants to community causes/scholarships, image/public relations for fcmc, benevolence care, and equipment/expansion. The 23nd annual fcmc foundation golf tournament netted $31,480 for six pieces of equipment including four ekg machines and two bipap machines for respiratory/cardiopulmonary. The 14th annual fcmc foundation dinner auction was held to benefit the purchase of a new bladder scanner for acute care, educational materials for the breast health advocate, new mixer for dietary, new text messaging system for it, a new blood bank refrigerator for lab, and a new piece of exercise equipment for the orbisonia physical therapy. The silent/live auction and dinner drew a crowd of about 215 guests that generated $34,575 in net proceeds. The sixth annual strawberry stampede featured over 100 runners and walkers. Through business sponsorships and registration fees, the event brought in $2,278 which was granted to fcmc's alzheimer's support group for programs and services. During fy 2017 the corner gift shop donated a new fully equipped wheelchair for the long-term care residents totaling $750 to fcmc. In all, the fcmc foundation granted $616,864. 97 to the fulton county medical center for projects, services and equipment during fy 2017. The 2nd annual bluegrass and bbq was held to raise scholarship funds, which when combined with business sponsorships and ticket sales, generated $13,195. Fcmc foundation's scholarship program provides funds to secondary and post-secondary students those who are local residents or children of staff - who are pursuing degrees in a health care-related field. For the fiscal year ending june 30, 2017, $33,750 was awarded to 19 students: 6 graduating high school seniors totaling $14,750 and 13 college students totaling $19,000. The addition of a post-graduate scholarship in memory of dr. Russell c. Mclucas was established after the mclucas trust committee awarded the fcmc foundation its remaining assets in 2014. These monies were placed into an endowment in his memory. In 2017, the fcmc foundation awarded seven recipients a total of $11,500 (part of $19,000 awarded to the college students) from the endowed mclucas scholarship program. The camp (congo advocates' medical project) campaign was established to continue the legacy of james e. Camp and his mission to provide health care in africa. Through donations, the fcmc foundation continued to provide support for a medical technician who heads a team that repairs and maintains everything in the heal africa medical facility. For fy 2017, $3,600 was given to support this cause. The fcmc foundation works with other advocates in the local community to advance health and wellness. Nonprofits, civic groups and individuals are encouraged to apply for grants and sponsorships. Funds are awarded to those causes that support the mission of health and wellness. During fy 2017, $13,536 was awarded to 21 such causes. One of the main initiatives of the fcmc foundation in fy 2017 was to build upon the establishment of new development council committees with an emphasis on giving through the: annual fund, business & industry, planned giving, special gifts and signature. These committees, with an emphasis on fundraising, are staffed by community volunteers. The development council is chaired by helen overly, local philanthropist and a member of the fcmc foundation board of directors. Each committee is chaired and meets monthly. The establishment of gift clubs with a name tied to fcmc's history was very important: annual fund (green hill donors club), business & industry (1950 circle of friends), planned giving (mackinlay society), special & signature gifts (fcmc visionaries). A marketing plan that included educational seminars (planned giving), ceo roundtables (business & industry) and assorted mailings (annual fund) were executed. The annual fund (in addition to the revenues posted to the special events highlighted above) generated $77,744 through direct-mail solicitations for the green hill donors club, gifts of tribute and employee giving. The mackinlay society received several planned gifts through individuals' estates, charitable trusts and annuities, retirement plans, bequests and life insurance policies. Planned gifts totaled $12,700 for fy 2017. The fcmc visionaries ($10,000 or above) had gifts from 10 charter members who contributed a $10,000 pledge spread over 5 years, or $100,000 designated for the new center for advanced medicine. In addition to prior year pledges, $200,000 was received from the $1,000,000 pledge in fy 16.
