Mission: Give cancer children hope, a positive image, and the will to fight "one more round" providing emotional and financial support for the child and the family.
Programs: Camp merry times program for children with cancer and their siblings, ages 4-18. Children are assigned to cabins and their "own" counselors and then several fun-filled days of closely supervised activities. . . Fishing, canoeing, arts & crafts, archery, horseback riding, rope courses, campfires, s'mores, singing, water sports and camp outs for the older kids. Santa claus joins them sometimes he even comes fishing. They had 72 children & 98 camp counselors this year. The camp site is donated for the four days and the community gives goods and services throughout the year to help support this big event.
provide family fun days where the whole family is invited to spend the day together, with other families sharing their same concerns about having a child with cancer. Santa claus comes to all family fun days and brings presents for all the children. In april they went to asheville fun depot where the kids play video games, ride go-carts, play laser tag and mini golf. In october they spend an entire day at camp ton a-wan-dah where they have arts and crafts, a jump castle, hay rides, and fishing. They ride to the pumpkin patch and pick out a pumpkin to decorate. Lunch is served in the cafeteria for everyone. They had 88 kids and parents go to fun depot and about 62 kids and parents come to the camp.
special wishes and gifts for children with cancer is a program where they make wishes come true for terminally ill children. They also gave many gifts to families throughout the year.
1). They have a big carnival with games and prizes for the children when they arrive. A professional photographer attends to provide each family with a christmas photo. Then they have a christmas banquet followed by christams carols and a visit from santa claus. This is santa's "favorite party" because he always seems to know exactly what the children wanted for chirstmas. They presented 121 children with presents. The total expenses for this event totaled 14,771. 2). The ted van-thullenar/friends of santa claus scholarship is offered to the children in the program that are cancer survivors or are still in treatment when they reach college age. The scholarship is for 2,000 each year for four years to a college or technical college of choice. The 5 individuals received scholarships totaling 9,000. 3). The chemo clinic expenses are to help the families with the costs to cover chemo therapy at the clinic. This year the costs directly paid to the chemo clinic totaled 2,097.
