Founded by Tom Arens, who has years of experience leading community health and development groups in India and Nepal for World Neighbors, Friends of Nepal was created to support these groups in Nepal when WN withdrew. Supported by a small group of donors "Friends" has provided scholarships to village students, who then return to work at the village health post. When some of these posts were leveled in the recent major earthquake "Friends" helped in the reconstruction.
I visited several of the villages in and healthposts in the early nineties and found them to be professionally run, providing top notch service. In one village I met with villagers digging a trench to bring clean fresh water to a shared tap.
