I have been part of the sponsorship program from its inception. I have found the Friends of Nepal Adelaide Inc (FONAI) volunteer and committee group who visit FONAI programs to be committed, open, very transparent, accountable and provide useful feedback on students’ progress and other ventures they are actively involved in. They offer a wonderful education program to the lowest 'caste' vulnerable young people, especially the girls. One of the best gifts you can give children is to education them. FONAI organise exciting and interesting fundraising events.
Keep up the good work FONAI.
FONAI exhibits exceptional enthusiasm and dedication to the young people in adversities in Nepal. Their collaboration with a young organisation-Canopy Nepal is another testimony to their committment to engaging with the youth. Amazing non-profit!
Friends of Nepal - Adelaide Inc. is a fantastic organization that is working relentlessly to make education accessible to underprivileged children. Apart from working day and night to meet this goal, they are incredible people to work with. Ps. they are super funny, so anyone working with them should be prepared with some laughing shoes.
Friends of Nepal-Adelaide is a wonderful organization. They have sent four large carts of book donations to our organization Nepal Orphans Home (NOH). They have also sent volunteers to teach a variety of workshops (e.g. professional development workshops for our staff, writing and sanitation/First Aid workshops for our children) at the NOH-affiliated Chelsea Chelsea. We are happy to be in contact with their leadership to plan partnerships, like helping one of the girls they sponsor to attend tailoring classes at our tailoring shop. It is a pleasure to work with FONAI!
Great job by the Adelaide team.
Have been to a few fundraisers all very well organised, happy to support functions in the future.
It started with an Earthquake! In 2015 Nepal suffered an Earthquake that was to kill some 9,000 people, leaving many others without homes and employment . I saw there was a need through my children's school in Australia (Pulteney Grammar) to deliver tents, medical supplies and water purification systems to an Orphanage in Kathmandu. After staying with them for a month and helping to build a temporary shelter, I was to discover that the real need in this orphanage was for support for children 16+ who by law had to leave the orphanage (often the only home they had known) So it was fantastic to come back to Australia and find Friends of Nepal Adelaide Inc. A small group of like-minded people who were interested in finding a solution to this problem. We work together to support severely disadvantaged students by educating them, housing them and supplying the family support that they need. We work with an NGO in Nepal- working closely so that these children can have the best outcome with employment, self worth and the ability to be a productive and positive member of the Nepalese Community. The funds are raised by Sponsorship and Fundraising. 100% of the money raised goes into our organization paying for College fees, Vocational training, Hostel fees, Medical and a clothing allowance. Members of our small group travel to Nepal (at their own expense) 3-4 times a year. This allows us to give a sense of family to our students and also supports our Manager and the MMSD-N Committee whom we are working through. The members of our committee are honest, hardworking and believe that through education children can reach their potential. These children would not be given these Educational opportunities if they were to be left on their own. Most are from the lowest 'caste' system running through-out Nepal. Girls at 16 will be sent back to villages to be married off, sold into slavery or worse. Young boys can find themselves indentured to companies in India with no prospect to return to Nepal. By educating these students we give them the 'hand up' that they need.
