Mission: WSUM was founded in 1995 by a group of motivated students and faculty who were committed to bringing the unique programming and learning opportunities of student radio to the University of Wisconsin. WSUM offers an alternative to corporate-owned commercial radio and is dedicated to teaching people how to create media content and become intimately engaged in the critical role of media in our society. Our programming fosters the exchange of ideas, engages listeners with independent, innovative music, and creates content that directly serves diverse communities. We strive to be the best student-programmed radio station in the nation.
