Causes: Community Coalitions
Mission: To support programs in fort liberte, haiti through a partnership with the jerusalem baptist church for the purposes of hleping the poor by providing educational opportunities, training, medical care, food and water, shelter for the homeless, and working to improve the community
Programs: Provided financial support for approximately 485 needy haitian families. A child sponsorship/scholarship program keeps hundreds of children in school, assists their families, and helps support teachers and free school lunches, as well as provide jobs for a church staff in haiti who administrate the funds and supervise the project.
10-12 groups of volunteers, as well as board members, travel frequently to fort liberte during the year to work alongside haitian partners in the clinic, at the farm, and on various construction and community development projects, such as well digging. Those in charge of the child sponsorship and higher eduction programs,the school lunch program and elderly housing all visit at least annually to oversee the programs and coordinate services with the haitian leadership.
provide medical treatment for 2,500 needy residents of ft liberte, haiti. Acute care, maintenance and general health promotion is provided in the community through the eben ezer clinic, staffed by a haitian doctor and local nurses and auxilary personnel and in cooperation with local health ministry. The clinic serves the community weekdays and for emergencies. Acute and chronic problems are addresssed and patients are often referred and covered for eye exams, dental work or surgery. The staff is supplemented by visiting american medical teams and medicines, supplies and equipment are provided by the teams and ffl to keep the clinic open. Ffl supports the local health and human services and that for specific health issues no one is turned away based on ability to pay, race or religion.
