Mission: The corporation shall exist as a fund-raising organization with all the money raised used to restore, support, protect and enhance the assets and properties of coronado state monument in bernalillo, sandoval county, new mexico, and be disbursed according to the need of the coronado historic site in consultation with the corporation.
Programs: The coronado state historic site receives extensive financial and volunteer contributions from fchs members. The friends organization is widely viewed as the most successful of its kind within the new mexico department of cultural affairs, historic sites division. Below is a summary of important contributions during 2017. Volunteerism: invested more than 10,000 volunteer hours during 2017, a contribution valued at more than 100,000. Total financial support: donated over 14,400 to support public events, programs, education-al outreach, museum exhibits, research, and site enhancement. Fundraising: raised almost 60,000 in support of the chs. Exhibit upgrades: donated over 2,300 for new museum exhibits at chs. Kiva restoration: set aside more than 2,000 towards replastering/repainting the black band in the painted kiva. Native garden: bought seeds and volunteered labor to re-establish the pueblo-inspired grid garden. Other historic site enhancement: provided volunteers for spring and fall clean clean-up days. Research activities: participated in dig kuaua test excavations; analyzed ceramics from kuaua pueblo; examined artifact collections from guisewa pueblo; digitized information. Research scholarship: refocused the fchs scholarship program with initial funding of 2,500. Gift shop: sold more than 38,500 in merchandise, netting more than 14,400 after expens-es; donated over 1,000 for new rugs and lighted display cabinets. Docent program: conducted hundreds of guided tours of the historic site/painted kiva; re-cruited new docents; purchased training materials. Educational outreach: purchased almost 1,400 of materials and provided volunteers to support school outreach; secured 1,000 grant for junior ranger program materials. Events support: presented the 12th annual fiesta of cultures with over 925 attendees; sup-ported a reggae on the river concert attended by more than 500 visitors. Communication: paid advertising, events calendars, web site, member newsletters and emails, membership in chambers of commerce, participation in archaeological societies, in-formation tables at events, and advocacy before the new mexico legislature.
