Mission: Friends of anderson park is a non-profit conservancy dedicated to the thoughtful stewardship of anderson park, montclair, nj and to fostering its historic, natural and environmental qualities. Our primary mission is to protect the spirit and integrity of the park's olmsted-designed landscape and rehabilitate and maintain its pastoral ambience.
Programs: In 2017, friends of anderson park planted 20 trees, 23 shrubs, 29 rose bushes and 600 tulip bulbs. Activities included arbor day tree plantings; mother's day rose plantings; the "music under the june moon" concert; and an information table at the art fair in the park. We presented two historic walking tours (anderson park and mt. Hebron cemetery) and partnered with bike/walk montclair on its "histories and mysteries" bike tour. We mentored one high school student doing a senior internship in the park. We partnered with other nonprofits and with schools for activities: montclair history center; bike/walk montclair, girl scouts, montclair high school, glenfield middle school, buzz aldrin middle school and montclair state university. We also monitored development in upper montclair, particularly the expansion of the warner building on lorraine ave.
