Mission: Freedom Network USA is the nation’s largest coalition working to ensure that trafficked persons have access to justice, safety, and opportunity. Established in 2001, the network is comprised of trafficking survivors, legal and social service providers, researchers, advocacy organizations, and expert consultants. Our perspective is derived from the diverse geographic scope and expertise that our members bring from working with survivors of labor and sex trafficking. Together we influence policy, provide training and technical assistance, and increase the capacity of members and allies. We are dedicated to a human rights-based approach to human trafficking. Protecting the rights of each individual survivor is the only path to restoring their dignity and giving them the opportunity they deserve to pursue a better life. This commitment to human rights ties the network together as it works toward the common goal of ending human trafficking.
Target demographics: Survivors of human trafficking
Geographic areas served: Nationally
Programs: The Freedom Network Training Institute (FNTI) is the premier training resource for professionals in the human trafficking field. FNTI provides in-person and online training, fact sheets, tools, and templates that are based on a client-centered and trauma-informed approach. The Institute has trained thousands of professionals across the country, utilizing facilitators who are subject matter experts in the field.
The Survivor Reentry Project focuses on criminal record relief for survivors of human trafficking and builds sustainable post-conviction representation practices across the country. The project offers national training and technical assistance on vacatur, expungement, sealing and other criminal record remedies for trafficking survivors, public defenders, legal service lawyers, pro bono attorneys, victims’ advocates, law students, judges, and prosecutors.
We provide Training and Technical Assistance as well. Access to safe and affordable long-term housing is critical for survivors of human trafficking. Affordable housing programs, including transitional and long-term, often have long waitlists and may restrict eligibility based on immigration status, criminal history, rental history, or current income. The housing landscape is truly complex and can be difficult to navigate. FNTI provides training and resources on housing options for survivors of human trafficking. This includes guidance for advocates in accessing appropriate emergency, transitional, or long-term housing options for survivors. FNTI’s Housing Training and Technical Assistance Project includes a wide array of expert consultants, including a Survivor Advisory Panel, who supports the creation and delivery of content.
Freedom Network USA advocates to protect the rights of trafficking survivors by engaging with federal agencies and lawmakers to advance a human rights-based approach to human trafficking. We promote policies that address the root causes of trafficking, guarantee the protections and rights of trafficked persons, and encourage survivor leadership in efforts to combat human trafficking.
We create space for advocates to learn from one other, provide professional development opportunities to develop new skills, and carve out opportunities for professionals to use their experience in new and exciting ways. Through this work, we build community, expertise, and power to make a positive change in the lives of survivors.
