Causes: Homeless & Housing, Housing Support
Mission: (1)assist low-income families obtain adequate, safe sanitary housing; (2)help low-income households acquire appropriate water and wastewater services; (3)enable small communities and local organizations to more effectively address the needs of those with substandard shelter; (4)demonstrate new services and new approaches to address rural housing problems, and (5)alert the public and private sectors about the housing, water, and community development needs of low-income rural residents.
Programs: In 2017 the critical assistance program received 16,333 requests for assistance but not all submitted applications. The program provided assistance to 1,429 individuals in 714 households with $274,927 of assistance, including providing 435 households assistance for security deposits to move into affordable homes, providing 232 households assistance with rent to prevent evictions, providing 20 households with assistance for utility payments, providing 14 households with assistance for mortgage payments to prevent foreclosure, and providing 13 households with assistance for property taxes to prevent the respective counties from foreclosing on their homes.
