Mission: Foster & Banks Walk in Faith Foundation seeks to create a life-long meaningful connection for “at-risk” youth and their families by establishing an environmentally conscious, one-stop, networking hub that offers services and support while providing accessible navigation through Los Angeles’ comprehensive social services system.
Results: From April 2012 to the Present date, we have run seven separate Youth Earth Club sessions, working with over 400 students at two different sites. These students did various projects from building a garden and compost, to engaging in trash reduction, community beautification, were educated on environmental issues and challenges, and encouraged to creative possible sustainable solutions. The Youth Earth Club hosted three Recycling and Resource Community events at two different sites collecting over 5,000 pounds of E-Waste, and 4,000 pounds of clothing & shoes for homeless shelters. We hosted three Earth Day Events during this time period, opening up our schools to parents and the surrounding community to promote and educate on environmental awareness, accountability, and responsibility, and serviced over 3,000 students, families, and community members with resources, job information, and free healthcare screenings. We also collected 5,600 pounds of boxed goods and canned vegetables and fruits for homeless youth and low income families. During our fall events we collected and gave out hundreds of blankets, hats, and gloves. During this year, we also forged 11 strategic partnerships with organizations who also service our targeted population. We organized and participated in over 200 Community Fundraises, raising over $30,000 for our free club, book club, song writing workshop, and other youth and families programs.
