Mission: The Friends of Forest Park's roots date back to 1946, when a group of Portland citizens joined to create a forest park in Portland's west hills, leading to dedication of the Parks first 3,000 acres as city parkland in 1948. The Committee continued as the public relations voice of the park for many years. In 1989, the organization changed its name to Friends of Forest Park, and became a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. Friends of Forest Park offers membership to all interested in protecting this natural habitat and recreation site in midst of an increasingly dense urban area.We inform and educate citizens about the Park, organize volunteer service, raise funds for Park projects, and advise city and county officials to take action beneficial to the Park
