I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumor earlier this year that completely changed my life and my loved one’s life. Before and during treatment all that I could think about was surviving and post treatment it has been hard to get out of survival mode. This respite gave me the opportunity to live again and my family the opportunity to see the life in me again. I have cancer but cancer doesn’t have me and I will continue to find the joy in everyday. This weekend left a memorable imprint on me and I will be forever grateful for this experience.
Can’t say enough good things about this nonprofit. As a transplant mom, our family has had its fair share with chronic health issues and raising awareness about such so when my diagnosis of breast cancer came in January of this year we were ready to take cancer head on. But I quickly learned that the support your receive through aggressive treatments make all the difference in how well you cope and recover. For Pete’s Sake helped to bring a level of peace and tranquillity into my life, something that I had not realized my family needed. I was so used to being the rock and support for everyone that actually being supported in a way the their nonprofit offered was unsettling but necessary for me. The respite was full of love, laughter and activities that really took my mind off of cancer. It was a space for healing. Thank you Marci, the work that you are doing is so necessary and we are grateful for the love and support your continue to pay forward in honor of your loved one.
We donate monthly to For Pete's Sake. They have personally touched and helped my family at one of the worst times in our lives. I had a 2 year old and a new born and my husband (26 years old) was diagnosed with cancer. Chemo started and radiation would follow. FPS gave our family hope. They sent us on a trip to Florida. They gave us the break we needed to get away and be a normal family for a week. We escaped cancer for a week and it was amazing. FPS Is amazing! Not a moment goes by that we aren't thankful for what thy dos for us and what they continue to do for other families dealing with cancer. My donation to FPS could never repay them for he experience and memories that gave my family, but donating is the least I can do. I could give you a million reasons why I donate to FPS. They continue to give families hope and renewal to keep fighting their cancer battles. That is priceless in my book.
Review from #MyGivingStory
Probably the best thing I could tell you about For Pete's Sake is to share a note written about our organization - which For Pete's Sake has supported - from the wife of a wounded warrior. What she says about us applies to For Pete's Sake too, because they have helped make it possible for us to do this very kind of thing for our veterans and service members.
THANK YOU For Pete's Sake:
"My husband is a wounded warrior...he lost a leg in Afghanistan and struggled with a lot before we got in touch with PawPADs a couple years ago. We were eventually partnered with Barkley just over six months later. Barkley is a dog who was rescued from a shelter and trained in a prison...Barkley has changed our lives. There is not a piece of medical equipment on the planet that can do what this dog does for my husband. Barkley has given him a best friend and companion to share not only his struggles and hard times but his successes too...Barkley can turn on the lights and pick things up but the best thing he does is watch out for and take care of my husband...This is a nonprofit that is not only changing lives but changing the world while helping wounded warriors like my husband..."
Thanks again, For Pete's Sake, for making this possible!
