Mission: Community organization serving as a catalyst for community engagement, research and solutions.
Programs: Fellows program. Experienced journalists and a college intern work as independent contractors researching and reporting on matters of importance to county residents as determined by the survey of rappahannock issues. In 2017, the journalists researched and produced a two-part series about local land use policies and the status of the county's comprehensive plan. A second three-part series about rural health care, rescue services and the frail network of organizations working in the health-care sector. The series concluded that the county would benefit from a stronger network that improves coordination and cooperation.
strategic communications. Additional advertising, social media, marketing, publications, and public relations which communicate the findings of our research to our local community. Following the series on local land use policies and the status of the comprehensive plan, the resulting forum drew officials involved in planning and zoning. The series about rural health care concluded that the county would benefit from a stronger network that improves coordination and cooperation. A formal gathering is planned to pursue next steps in the coming year.
media partnership. A stipend paid to our media partner, the rappahannock news, to assist with the unusual costs of graphics and other material required to present our research findings.
