I lost my beloved Chloe 5 years ago..I just happened to see this charity, and I looked online and a beautiful little furry face touched my heart.I made arrangements to go look at her and fell in love..she had a shy little brother that looked so lonely without her,and I brought them both home!!! With love and care, they are plump and happy!! I love them both so much!! They are loving, sweet and sometimes funny! Go get a buddy of your own there!! You will never regret it....rescue's are the best!!! My Abby and Bodie..❤️
Adopted a cat from this rescue and things did not work out. I was Highly allergic. The owner was rude and difficult. She would lash out at people in a very unprofessional and volatile way. Unfortunately due to this, I would NOT EVER recommend this shelter and who suffers....the cats. So sad.
We fostered two cats from here in 2020, and my daughter ended up adopting one. It was obvious from the first visit that the volunteers who care for the cats are very invested in their lives and futures. The owner isn't a warm and fuzzy sort of person toward people, but is passionate about helping cats. If she is angry at someone, it's because of a valid reason: they mistreated the animal they agreed to care for or broke their agreement about not declawing a cat, etc.
I have never really had to witness such immaturity from an organization as I stumbled across today on Facebook of all places. Call yourselves a "rescue" but how unprofessional of this woman to call someone out for not chipping their cats ALL WHILE THIS RESCUE COULDVE EASILY HELPED THIS PERSON AND CHIPPED THEIR CATS FOR NEXT TO NO COST. If Csnip can chip a cat for 10 bucks so could this rescue IF they really cared about the well being of the cats... but no, this woman instead decided to take that time to make a Facebook post bashing and shaming the owner of the cats. She is giving big "mean girl, shade thrower" vibes and it's just gross. Do better, Karen. Er, I mean Susan. You're ugliness and childishness, towards the community in need that you aim to serve, isn't welcome and doesn't go unnoticed. We get it. You're mad at the owner of the cats. But as a rescue you should be glad and relieved that these 3 cats were picked up and returned home instead of taking up space and your valuable resources. Please stop being so ugly towards the community.
Wanted to help a feral Papa & a Mamma with 2 kittens. What a nightmare finding someone to entrust with this little family. Gina at FOF came thru', I patiently waited for space [remember 4 cats], caught them, then drove 2+ hours to deliver them. Worth every moment...the FACILITY was amazing...the care at intake was wonderful...knowing they would be lovingly looked after and receive needed medical attention until adoption was an emotional relief. After 9 weeks a sad but joyful moment.
It's obvious that The CATS COME FIRST at FOF ... They have so many magnificent FURRIES for adoption ... for every one adopted another place opens up for a second cat to be saved. I highly recommend finding your forever furry HERE!
Thanks to the whole team at Focus On Ferals for your dedicated work.
As you can see Papa needed medical attention ...I couldn't handle him.
The director of the shelter is incredibly difficult to work with. Volunteers are given little to no instruction or training, yet are expected to know what to do. She has a huge ego, a poor reputation, and a lot of people are literally afraid of her. She herself admits that she's surprised if volunteers stay longer than a year, but then cries on Facebook that they don't have enough help. I will be spending my time in the future volunteering somewhere where my time and effort are actually appreciated.
An amazing organization to volunteer for. I only wish I had started volunteering here sooner. I was able to also be a "customer" adopting a very sweet kitty most shelters would have given up on. Thank you for the opportunity to volunteer and thank you for my sweet Athena!
I started volunteering with Focus On Ferals five years ago. I have adopted two cats from this rescue, one before I started volunteering and one after. There isn’t any other rescue I’d rather be a part of. Our fearless leader, Gina, has one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen. She will do anything and everything to rescue a cat and save it’s life, and she has instilled that hard work and caring in her team of volunteers. We are a 100% volunteer run non-profit, but our shelter is one of the cleanest you will ever visit, and our cats are so loved and cared for while they are with us.
Focus Does such a great Job. Trying to keep Cats off the street. Gina even goes to shelters all across the state Picking up cats. To stop them from killing cats. here is one of the Kitties she took in she had ears loaded with mites and her tongue loaded with Ulcers. But all recovered now, Thank you
I have been volunteering at Focus On Ferals for over 5 years. This is the one organization that responded to me and took in an injured stray cat that showed up at my place. None of the others I contacted would do that. To give back, I started volunteering there, and it turns out that the director has a real soft spot for those cats that are injured or elderly; the ones that would normally be euthanized. We not only take in feral cats for TNR, but also adoptable cats from other shelters that have been overloaded. The team of volunteers are amazing. Any negative reviews are by those who could not fit the high standards expected at this wonderful shelter.
Absolutely LOVE volunteering here. The Director deeply cares about every single cat that comes in. There have been some on the brink of death and she does everything she can to save them. It is so heartwarming when they find forever homes. I have been doing this for almost a year and it is so rewarding.
This organization does not treat their volunteers well and it is obvious from working with them that they do not have the cats best interests at heart or even in their mind!
Shelter policies unclear, director seems to be perpetually angry.
I was coming in most Sunday afternoons for an hour or so to socialize with the cats, since I am living in the area while on a contract engineering assignment. I saw from the first time I was there that the director always seemed to be angry about something, but I let it pass as I enjoyed the chance to work with the cats, as I've done on many other contract assignments over the last 30 years. Most weeks I would make a donation to help out the shelter.
It was suggested that I brush some of the cats, and so I bought a brush that I brought with me every week. This continued for several months, until last Sunday(11th of August), when the director noticed that I had the brush. She asked me if this was my brush? I replied that it was, and she became very angry about using my own brush. Another volunteer remarked that she had forgotten to tell me that this wasn't allowed. Yet I had been doing this with no objections for several months.
I had earlier made a donation; the first time I've been asked. If I had known that the director was going to get so angry, I would not have made the donation. When my contract ends in late September, I was going to make a much larger donation. Obviously, that is now out of the question.
I like the cats, and will miss the chance to spend time with them. But I won't tolerate being harangued over a policy that I was not aware of.
I think that the shelter's policies need to be made more clearly, and most importantly, I think that the director needs to either be replaced by someone who isn't always angry, or remove the lemons and prune juice from her diet. Until then, I urge people considering either donating to or volunteering to find another shelter with a calmer director.
