It is very disheartening that some people prey on the misfortune of others.
On a broader note, Firefighters across North America have organized legitimate fundraising organizations to help burn survivors. Every now and then someone comes along and copies or plagiarizes a legitimate name in order to confuse folks who sincerely respect and support the work of those who actually do work to aid folks traumatized by burn injuries and really do send child burn survivors to an established Burn Camp.

The consulting company behind this and other charities is Dragon Group II: http://www.dragongrp.com/fund_raiser_info.html. They connect professional fundraisers with their client organizations, like Firefighters Burn Fund (like a broker). That's how they make their money, and they don't seem too particular about the quality of the fundraising or character of the fundraisers. It's an outfit that has had its various enterprises banned in some states. These Dragon Group-arranged alliances have been known to raise scads of money and pay out as little as possible to the target recipients. There are many wonderful, honest charities out there doing much needed work. Support those charities. You're generosity will not be wasted.

I'm so glad I read this review. My husband & I were skeptical when we got a telemarketing call from this organization. I will NOT donate & I will tell all my friends & family NOT to donate either. It's a shame because my mother-in-law was killed in a fire and my first reaction was to donate to this organization. It gives reputatable charities a black eye!!

http://www.fireburnfund.org/ If you receive a call from this organization, do not contribute. It is a 501 c (3) and it is a scam, which took in $621000 in 2010 and spent $592000 on fundraising expenses through 6 telemarketing firms in Georgia. So ask questions when you receive a call for contributions from anyone.
