Mission: Ifp minnesota's mission is to advance a vibrant and diverse community of independent film and media artists through networking, education, funding, and opportunities for showcasing their work.
Programs: Artistic fellowships - re-granting up to $300,000 annually in fellowships and awards including mcknight fellowships, mntv, and knight screenwriting award. Ifp minnesota conducts a number of workshops and presentations surrounding these fellowships, including providing technical assistance in applications as well as receptions and screenings. Over 350 apply annually for these fellowships.
youth media - a core program dedicated to educating and supporting the next generation of media artists, creating inroads into communities underrepresented in the media arts. The mission is to teach filmmaking as a means of engaging students in their education developing artistic, critical thinking, and career skills while examining issues in their own environments. This is achieved through a combination of programs including residencies (3-6 per year, primarily at inner-city schools), summer camps, workshops and special sessions (including planet homeschool, the girl scouts of america, and others), and juicemedia (a free, after-school program for youth held at ifp three days per week during the school year). Over 800 youth are served annually through these programs and their presentations.
education - ifp minnesota has a unique, primary focus on educational activity, providing independent media artists the training and professional development needed to thrive in the industry. The education program offers a quarterly schedule of 20 to 30 classes on various aspects of filmmaking and photography. In addition, the organization sponsors an annual filmmakers conference, hosts 6-8 ifp pro and master classes each year, and has other targeted workshops and events. Instructors are experts in their field, including screenwriting, editing, cinematography, producing, directing, photography, and new media. Students range from emerging artists to seasoned professionals. Many events are free and other costs are kept low; scholarships are available for all paid programs. Over 2,000 served annually.
