Feminists Choosing Life of New York is a group of volunteers who work to support women's rights and end violence against women and children. Women and men who care about the people who are most vulnerable in our society including single mothers, pregnant women, the unborn, people near the end of their life join Feminists Choosing Life to speak out about issues of violence against these populations. I was most impressed by the work of FCL in opposing the expansion of abortion in New York. It is the state with the highest abortion percentages in the country already (40% of pregnancies in New York City end in abortion) and this bill would have increased that rate by eliminating common sense limitations like informed consent and 24-hour waiting periods. I am a professional woman who has had four pregnancies and I definitely believe that unborn children have the right to life. We need to help women with safe alternatives to abortion and that is one of the issues Feminists Choosing Life of New York work for.
Feminist Choosing Life of NYS is an organization that believes in nonviolence in all stages of life...from the womb to the tomb. We support a variety of women and life issues. We are not religious but are humanitarians knowing that human life begins in the womb and is the most vulnerable among human kind.
Following in the footsteps of 19th and 20th century feminists FCLNY opposes violence to all human beings regardless of developmental stage, race, sex, sexual orientation or religion. FCLNY advocates for women's health issues ex. the long term effects on the health of women who donate their eggs for research. FCLNY educates the public on international issues such as China's one-child policy and the resulting sex selection abortion. FCLNY truly " counters the culture" by shattering the myth that feminism and abortion rights go hand-in-hand.
For me, FCL is more than an organization- it is a diverse community made up of individuals from all walks of life who share common goals- to be advocates for the dehumanized; to be partners with the disenfranchised; to be a unified voice for those who are silenced. As a daughter of social activists who worked alongside folks like Cesar Chavez and for causes like the Biafran Relief, I grew up cognizant of the flaws within our world community- flaws that are, to be honest, quite horrendous and terrifying. However, I also witnessed and, in turn, understood the power of what MLK King Jr. called Soul Force- what MK Gandhi called Satyagraha- nonviolent resistance to bring about truth and justice. This is the mission of FCL: to be an active voice for a consistent life ethic through our education, advocacy and outreach efforts. Feminists Choosing Life of New York aims to promote a culture in which women can choose life from conception to natural death. No person is denied a place, a voice, a life. As a mother of two young children, I joined FCL to work with other mothers who may not know all their options- who may not understand the power they hold- who may not know how they feed their children...love their children....motherhood is no easy task, but it is a joyous one and an honorable one when you are given support and respect from the communities in which you live. FCL is not a mouthpiece- it is a strong and active voice.
FCLNY is an organization concerned about women across the lifespan - from womb to tomb! It is universal in its mission and belief that all people, by virtue of their human dignity, have a right to live without violence from conception to natural death. Their last two annual events, held at the Little Theater, were well-organized and coordinated with multiple community activities around the topics. This spring, the organization brought Attorney Reggie Littlejohn, founder and president of Women's Rights without Frontiers, to Rochester to speak about the violation of women's rights in China. She was featured on the Bob Smith Show and gave a preview of the film "It's Girl" which she presented in its entirety to the British Parliament in November. The exciting thing about FCL is that the organization is a member of Consistent Life: an International network for Peace, justice and life.
As a member of this network of over 200 groups, we not only oppose abortion, but capital punishment, poverty, and war. Connecting with other areas of violence that take life besides abortion assists in creating a non-violent world throughout all stages of life.
FCLNY is a wonderful organization with a dynamic Board of Directors who are passionate about its pro-woman, pro-life mission. I served on the Board for several years and now am an Advisory Board member, and I have to say that I've had an up-close view of the organization's undertakings, and have found it to be well-organized, responsible, and committed to its mission statement. I would not have invested my time and money into FCLNY otherwise.

I love Feminists Choosing Life of NY! As a long time volunteer and now as part time staff, I have come to know and understand this organization and its people. The mission is the guiding principle and the board is professional, educated, dedicated,honest, thoughtful, logical and full of love for women, children, families and each other. They are meticulous in their decisions on how to use FCL's resources effectively and feel a strong sense of responsibility toward Its members and supporters. They into every decision the board makes on their behalf.
The members and supporters themselves come from a variety of circumstances and lifestyles but are united in the knowledge that we can do better for our women and children in the womb than abortion, better for all of people than euthanasia, the death penalty, poverty and injustice, better for our world than war and better in our science than violent research on embryos. They live to promote a peaceful world.
