Mission: Join institutions,agencies,farmers & business together to support, coordinate,expand & sustain production,processing,distribution & consumption of local foods & create an economically viable regional food system benefiting farmers,businesses,food svcs,consumers in se nc.
Programs: Feast down east is an economic and community development initiative developed in response to the massive job loss in the regions agricultural and manufacturing sectors and the growing poverty rate. Feast down east is committed to increasing the capacity of limited resource farmers (defined by the usda as socially disadvantaged farmers, in our region predominately african american and women farmers) in becoming reourceful farmers and in supporting low income communities in advancing their own food security. Feast down east helped create 73 farm/food related jobs in senc, established a system of healthy farm food distribution in 4 economically disadvantaged communities, connected approximately 40 limited-resource farmers with over 50 institutional food buyers, provided educational workshops and training to 235 farmers.
