Programs: Youth services: fsws youth services emphasize prevention as they strategically promote positive youth development by reducing risk factors and helping youth establish and strengthen the protective factors. Examples of fsws protective youth services include: the award-winning evidence-based big brothers big sisters youth mentoring program; westchester county youth councils; respite and camp success; youth residences; and youth forum. Examples of achievements include:fsws respite program served 235 children this year, including camp success. Of the children who participated in respite during this fiscal year, only 8 were reported as having been hospitalized. Therefore, over 90% of respite participants remained safely in the community. The early recognition program completed 1,000 mental health screenings of young children this year. Fsws aftercare program is designed to support families with children returning home from foster care from having their children return to out-of-home placement. For the fiscal year july 1, 2013-june 30, 2014, of the 116 youth returning from foster care, 6 children were replaced . The children in fsws early step forward classrooms demonstrated reduced number of aggression/oppositional behavior (e. G. Hitting, biting) in the classroom due to the support of the esf social workers. The children learned important social skills like sharing, taking turns, participating in group activities and talking about their feelings.
