Mission: Family service agency of marin provides a critical safety net of caring and affordable mental health services to over 6,000 children, adults, and families each year.
Programs: The child and family treatment program: this program provides specialized services for families with children 0-5 years and for adults, adolescents and children who were sexually abused, exposed to domestic violence, or suffered another trauma in childhood. The jeanette prandi children's center is a primary source of referrals of children who have been sexually abused. Services in this program include: 1) counseling and psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families, child-parent psychotherapy (cpp) an attachment and evidence-based therapy , 2) parent aides for mothers and fathers of children 0-5 years 3) parent-child interaction therapy (pcit) a behavioral treatment for parent-child relationship difficulties, 4) developmental assessments , and 5) infant massage.
suicide prevention and community counseling: supportive counselors answer the county's only suicide prevention & crisis hot line 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Supervised volunteer grief counselors provide free in-person grief counseling. 9,434 calls were received from an estimated 1,098 people in distress. The phone counselors helped to enhance the callers' coping and problem-solving skills. People in crisis were given alternatives to violence to themselves or others and relief from the profound isolation of crisis, loss, and/or chronic mental illness. No fees are charged for the service, which is available to people of all ages and socio-economic levels.
southern marin services: multicultural counseling, education, outreach, and community collaboration were provided in the southern marin services program. 120 children and adults were provided with critically needed, comprehensive mental health services. Highly trained counselors helped children, adults, couples and families identify their strengths and abilities to manage issues such as: depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, parenting and school-related difficulties, parenting a child with severe behavioral problems, childhood trauma and family violence, substance abuse and addiction, mental illness and psychiatric needs, foster parenting and adoption, life transitions and grief and loss.
