Mission: Family and Home Network helps families spend generous amounts of time together. We focus on children''s needs for warm, nurturing relationships with their parents--and on parents'' experiences and feelings as they take the time to meet their children''s needs. We offer affirmation, information and advocacy to parents who forgo or cut back on paid employment in order to care for their children (as well as those who would like to spend more time with their children). We educate the general public and policy makers about the benefits of parents and children being emotionally engaged and spending generous amounts of time together. We advocate for inclusive family policies which support parents regardless of their income-earning and caregiving choices.
Programs: The majority of FAHN's efforts are devoted to offering affirmation, information, and advocacy to parents through our website and outreach efforts. Our advertisement-free website provides a refuge for parents, a place to connect with others, to reflect, to learn, to find mentors and be mentors, to recharge. We seek information about parents who forgo or cut back on paid employment to nurture their families, and we analyze information provided by other organizations. In addition, we work to educate the public, members of the media, and policymakers about families who care for their own children and about the needs of children of all ages. Our staff and volunteers have spoken at Congressional hearings and at policy conferences, as well as in thousands of media interviews. The issues we address include tax policy, child care subsidies, social security reforms and other family policies. We respond to requests for information from the public, news media, researchers, policy makers and others.
