Mission: Family assistance ministries is a faith-based charitable non-profit organization assisting those in need in southern orange county with resources for food, shelter, and personalized counsel and aid, helping clients bridge the gap from dependency to self-sufficiency.
Geographic areas served: South Orange County area
Programs: Hunger prevention food pantry: emergency and ongoing nutritious food assistance is provided to children, seniors and all who are hungry. This is made possible by our 7-day a week, fresh rescue from local grocery stores and farms, usda food, senior commodities, and food donations from community partners such as churches, businesses, civic organizations, schools, scouts, and individuals. An average of 4,868 hungry people seek fam as a food source each month. 1,344 local volunteers make this and other fam programs possible. Food donations are redistributed at fam's main resource center in san clemente, satellites in dana point and san juan capistrano, and with other organizations. Clothing, adult and children's diapers, pet food, toiletries and other personal care items are also redistributed.
permanent supportive housing: fam launched housing for chronic homeless with a mental or physical disability this fiscal year. Fam is the master lease holder. Clients are provided tenant education, connection to a health home, a support team through fam's friendly visitors program, case management and wrap around services.
family house: fam launched the only family emergency shelter in south orange county to include dads. 52 homeless single dads, dual parent households, single moms and pregnant women were safely housed, offered healthy food choices, connected to health insurance and a health home and development screenings for children 5 and under. Financial counseling, job coaching, and other life skills classes are offered. Food, personal care items, clothing, diapers, back-to-school supplies, holiday gifts, referrals for other social services needed are provided. The goal is to help clients quickly graduate into their own stable housing.
