I have a four year degree for the area I was hired in. I have worked in tens of productions, ranging in student films to full-fledged television shows. And while I appreciate that children's theater is different, having worked in it before, this production was the least professional. I worked for this organization for a few months. It started off well enough, but after a while, it became clear: no one in this organization communicates. I was working directly with one other person, and discussed information like budget and deadlines. We agreed on a deadline, and after contacting this person again and again, was not allowed to purchase materials until over two weeks past the deadline. I am a full-time worker, and I explained this since the beginning. Yet, while I explained that I needed x amount of time to complete the work given to me in addition to my paid job, it was never taken into consideration. Instead, I had to do rush jobs to ensure that the costumes were eye-catching, and fit the actors in the loosest sense. No matter who I contacted, or what I did, I felt I was constantly out of the loop, and that I was never talking to the right person about my job. Nevertheless, I was proud of my work, and felt that I had done my best in the time given to me. This was not reflected by the organization. Even now, my work is featured on their page, and neither my name, nor the names of the others who brought their productions to life, are ever featured. This organization clearly does not appreciate the designers who put their years of experience into their ideas, nor does it endeavor to be something other than a third-rate children's production. I am very disappointed by the fact that the organization doesn't seem to appreciate its designers, and I hope they learn that the driving force behind its productions are its artistic talent.
