Mission: The association is a new york state not-for-profit organization. Itwas organized to provide services to the student body and faculty ofwestchester community college, inc. , which includes cultural andathletic activities, operations of the bookstore, cafeteria and student government.
Programs: Providing education, social, cultural & recreational activities for the college community (general fund & food service):the faculty student association (fsa) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization registered by the state of new york. Since 1953, the fsa has provided educational related services to benefit westchester community college including oversight of all campus dining services, bookstore, vending & copier services along with financial oversight of athletics, student government, cultural arts and student health insurance. The business office provides financial, administrative and human resource support to all fsa operations as well funds a portion on campus security, graduation expense and other operating expenses. Dining services:provide the campus with the first and best choice for on campus dining and catering including the introduction of starbucks hot and cold beverages, smoothies, and value meals. The viking cafe (main cafeteria) is located in the student center serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to students, faculty, and staff. The crema cafe also located in the student center proudly brews a full variety of starbucks hot and cold beverages and has a variety of baked goods. The siegel cafe is located in the gateway building serving soup, sandwiches and other items for individuals on the go.
cultural arts & bookstore:cultural arts:smart arts brings unique, artistic performances in dance, theater, music by exciting, world-class performer's right to the westchester community college's valhalla campus. These extraordinary events include a full range of multicultural offerings as well as a unique look behind the scenes. Included in the wide variety of events are mini-lectures/displays and an opportunity to meet many of the celebrity artists. Tickets are affordable and discounts are available for children, students and seniorsbookstore:the college bookstore is conveniently located behind the student center. The bookstore provides a wide array of merchandise which includes academic textbooks and study guides and is also a convenient one-stop shopping for snacks, metro-cards, college apparel, supplies, stationary and gift items.
student government association:the office of student involvement is the primary sponsor for student events and activism on campus. Whether you just want to attend events or to help plan them; there are experiences available to every student, regardless of your availability, course schedule, age, interests, etc. Engagement outside of the classroom contributes to a well-rounded college experience. With over seventy student clubs/organizations, dozens of on and off-campus events each semester there are a variety of options to help you be successful now and in your future! The westchester events board is a group of students committed to creating a vibrant and dynamic student community. Through offering creative and innovative student events both on and off campus, web affords all students the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy themselves outside of the classroom. Each spring semester, the office of student involvement seeks student leaders to serve as orientation leaders/peer advisors (ol/pa). In this role, students will serve as the host and guide for new students during the college's orientation. They will facilitate or co-facilitate various workshops to help welcome new students to the community.
athletics:the westchester community college athletic department sponsors ten different intercollegiate athletic teams in various sports. The school year consists of men's soccer and women's volleyball in the fall, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's bowling in the winter and men's baseball, women's softball and golf in the spring. Westchester teams are members of region xv of the national junior college athletic association and the mid-hudson conference. While most of our sports compete at the division iii level, men's basketball is division i and there is no division setup in men's and women's bowling. The westchester community college athletic department offers an excellent opportunity for westchester students to enjoy their favorite sports and showcase their individual talents prior to moving on to four-year schools or joining the job market. Westchester community college student athletes range from accomplished student athletes looking to move onto scholarship situations at four-year schools to students just learning a particular sport to students seeking technical certificates for immediate entry into the work force. Westchester community college is proud of the national recognition its teams and athletes have gained for the college.
