Factor-H supports basic human needs to one of the most vulnerable populations in the world: Families with Huntington's disease (HD) in Venezuela, Colombia and Peru. These families contributed their blood samples and data to HD research over the past 40 years; their contributions were paramount to the discovery of the HD gene that causes the disease, leading to significant scientific advances to modify this gene, getting us closer to slowing or eradicating this horrible disease. Unfortunately, these HD families in Venezuela are terribly impoverished with very limited access to medicine, care, food, shelter, education. Factor-H continues to fill this void as much as possible by operating local programs to provide food, shelter, education and healthcare to these families. These families have been forgotten by their country and the broader community. Thanks for Factor-H, they now have a little hope and care to help them.
I volunteered with Factor-H for 7 months as their social media intern, and I had a fantastic experience. Bianca, my supervisor and Executive Director at Factor-H, was a pleasure to work with and really made my work feel valued. She was always considerate and respectful of my time, and she consistently gave me all the resources I needed to do my job well.
The work Factor-H does is incredible too. They help people in the most dire, least visible situations get the aid they need to survive and cope with Huntington's disease. I've seen firsthand how quickly they implement programs and apply donations to improve the lives of HD families in Latin America. Any time or money given to Factor-H is used to its fullest extent.
If I didn't have other work and school commitments, I would still be volunteering with Factor-H. Whether I work with the organization again in the future or not, I will always be a huge fan and dedicated supporter!
Factor-H is an amazing organization run by an administration that is extremely passionate and dedicated to improving the lives of the most vulnerable populations of HD patients in Latin America. Constantly inspired by their work and will continue to support!
Factor-H is giving back to the deeply impoverished communities in Latin America that are affected by Huntington's disease (HD). As an HD family member, I personally see the extreme differences between the care and support my affected family members receive in the U.S. and the lack of care in these HD communities with high disease prevalence. We owe these families enormous gratitude for contributing to the early advances in HD research. It's our turn to ensure that we do everything in our power to reduce the suffering and neglect of these HD families in Latin America. Factor-H is responding to this need every day, on the ground, family by family, child by child.
