I was awarded an Encore Fellowship (Encore is also an exceptional non-profit organization!) to work at Expandability, a mission of Goodwill of Silicon Valley, for 1 year. My task as business developer was to secure internships or employment for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The fellowship has ended, but my admiration for the program endures. I have witnessed individuals stepping into their potential and also enjoying recognition for their work, attitudes and abilities.

Mission: Expandability’s mission is to provide support and services that aim to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities by supporting and developing their abilities through advocacy and meaningful employment.
Programs: Employment Services: The participant and the Expandability Staff will devise a personal vocational plan to gain skills and improve job readiness. Services are provided one-on-one and in group settings. These include: 1. Interviewing techniques 2. Developing a Resume 3. Grooming & Hygiene 4. Self-Advocacy (Asking for accommodations.) 5. Managing your health & life 6. Communication skills (Ability to interact with employers and coworkers) 7. Disability Benefits The Paid Internship Program is designed for the participant to either acquire the experience and skills for future paid employment in an integrated setting or for the internship to lead to full or part-time paid employment.
