Programs: ECA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1984 to help solve Philadelphia’s energy/poverty crisis. Its mission is to help people conserve energy and promote a sustainable and socially equitable energy future for all in the Philadelphia region. ECA has established a grassroots network of Neighborhood Energy Centers (NECs) which now includes 14 “one-stop-shops” throughout Philadelphia for comprehensive energy services. In 2016, ECA was able to replicate the NEC concept in DE and now has three established Community Energy Centers (CECs). ECA’s 60+ staff members work in a LEED Gold facility—formerly a factory producing civil war uniforms—in the West Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. The facility houses ECA’s Energy and Water Conservation crews, Heating Department, Community Programs team, Training Center, and administrative staff. Our facility is accessible by public transportation, with the 60 and the 57 being the bus routes closest to our building and the Market Frankford SEPTA stop within a 10 minute walk. s.
