Mission: Sirleaf market women's fund was created with the goal of assisting liberian market women and their families by: renovating existing market infrastructure and building new markets; providing clean water, sanitary facilities, electricity and safe storage; working with partners on adult literacy and small-business training; providing women with access to credit; and making space for pre-schools, playgrounds, and health facilities for the children of market women. Vision: provide direct services to tens of thousands women traders and their families. Our efforts to achieve these goals will include providing: accommodations for marketers during the rainy season and shelter from the sun; potable water and functioning toilet facilities; improved warehousing and storage facilities; properly equipped nursery schools, adult education buildings; credit facilities (to be used as seed money); and training. To affect 50 markets over a 5 year period either through new or improving existing markets.
Programs: Liberia women's initiative - this program includes: (1) the construction of new and improvement of existing markets, based on a model that includes water and sanitation, electricity and storage, pre-schools and playgrounds, and health and education facilities; (2) the creation of credit facilities for use by market women; and (3) training in literacy and small business concepts.
