I first visited El Sauzal Orphanage seven years ago on a short-term mission trip with my church group, to do carpentry, painting, and other needed repairs. I fell in love with the place and have returned every year since then to help any way I can. Here is a small family-run orphanage that takes in children with nowhere to go, and trusts God to supply what they need. It started with one infant but word got around and now the Mexican police and social agencies bring them children who've been abused and neglected. And God does provide, through a variety of churches and individuals mostly in the USA who - like me - stumbled across this remarkable place and can't help but be part of the support they need. Abused children become happy kids, nurtured and supported by a loving staff. There's a lot of poverty in Mexico, and this orphanage is an island of hope for the poorest of the poor. I have since learned that the foundation is operated entirely on a volunteer basis, no paid staff and very little in the way of operating expenses. It exists only to support the Mexican-run orphanage with advice and skills (like my carpentry work) and to provide a 501c3 conduit for Americans to donate.

The El Sauzal Foundation, Inc. has the important job of supporting the El Sauzal Orphanage. I personally have been involved with the El Sauzal Orphanage in Baja California Mexico for almost 25 years. The Orphanage is run by a family that has loved and cared for wounded and hurt children for close to 50 years. By being involved in this orphanage, and now in the Foundation, I know that I am making a difference in the lives of some very hurt children. I am grateful to be a part of this ministry.
