Mission: The hope of building a world based on social, environmental, and economic justice rests largely on the ability to educate the next generation about the realities of global development and to inspire students to turn their education into action. Studying abroad provides students with a unique view on global development - who gains, who loses, and what is at stake for us all - as well as first-hand experience with people and social movements working to shape a different future. ENGAGE (the Educational Network for Global and Grassroots Exchange), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, was founded in 2001 by students studying in Thailand as a mechanism for taking their study abroad experiences to the next level - by taking action. Through its work linking the struggles of Thai communities to grassroots action in the United States, ENGAGE illustrates how the experiences of former study abroad students can be catalyzed to affect meaningful change both in the United States and abroad. Today, ENGAGE is working to create a global network of students who are turning their international education into action, linking communities and movements globally in grassroots action for a just and sustainable world.
