Causes: Human Services, Neighborhood Centers
Mission: To work with people in communities to bridge cultural, racial, and economic differences in order to support and nurture the people in the community by providing holistic programs that empower, encourage and engender a vision of hope.
Programs: Edna martin childcare ministry (emcm):- 5 staff members earned their child development associate credential- 4 staff members received scholarships to further their education- 100% of staff earned over the amount of training hours required by paths to quality- 100% of staff successfully completed training to learn coping methods for students with challenging behaviors- 100% renewed/earned cpr & first aid certifications
social services:nearly 3,000 residents had basic needs met through services such as emergency food, congregate meals, clothing distribution, rent and utility assistance, and supportive services.
leadership and legacy:youth program:- 73 youth served directly in 2017 through emcc school aged youth out of school time opportunities including chool year and summer programming- 40 students served indirectly via emcc sponsored programming including village works. Mentoring 121 students in grades k-6 maintained regular program attendance of at least 60 days during the school year emcc's school community imprint grew in 2017 to include direct partnership with 19 traditional public, private and charter schools serving emcc students- 70 percent of regularly attending students earned a c or better/or increased their english language arts grades during the school year ending 2017- 62 percent of regularly attending students earned a c or better/or increased their math grades during the school year ending 2017senior angels program:- 230 total unduplicated seniors received access to life affirming activities and supports including food access, health and wellness activities, social engagements, learning and civic activities - 45 seniors attended regular exercise activities both on site at emcc and through partner efforts - 16 seniors participated in online learning opportunities, working on massive open online opportunities (mooc) working in partnership with high school mentees and emcc staff. Center for working families (financial, income support, employment coaching membership):center for working families (cwf) members have increased their level of self-sufficiency and decreased their level of dependence on governmental subsidized programs. This was accomplished by gaining additional soft and hard skills training, obtaining and/or retaining employment to increase their net income, paying down debt to increase their net worth, working with a financial coach and utilizing partner banking resources to improve their credit scores. - 468 individuals helped overall through financial, employment and income support services- 30 participants received an hse diploma or an industry-recognized credential. - 125 gained new employment or retained current employment. - 127 moved from financial crisis to stability by receiving job training and financial literacy education.
