Mission: Provide programs/services to enrich the social, physical, and intellectual well-being of seniors that lead to the development of their full potential in keeping with our core values of being caring, friendly, inclusive, stimulating, responsive, and affordable.
Programs: Recreational/educational - edsc offers many classes including three languages, arts (painting, pottery, carving), computer and internet trainings, drama and acting, crafts, creative retirement institute classes, and aarp's 55 alive defensive driving. Recreational opportunities include coffee bar, a wide variety of games, dances, choir, band, ukulele group, birthday parties, cookouts, monthly special dinners, lending library, aarp income tax assistance, transportation assistance, community breakfasts. Edsc also offers over 40 trips per year our waterfront location, with its spectacular view of puget sound, the olympic mountains and mt baker; this affords many seniors the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature and be refreshed by it.
b. Health/wellness - working in partnership with local providers and institutions we offer a full range of programs including clinical services provided by bastyr university, fitness classes, tai chi, yoga, hiking group, health screenings, foot clinic, nutrition lunches, and the annual health fair. Many of our programs are designed to directly build the capacity of seniors to address their own needs these include the senior employment program, health equipment loans, health education classes, consultations with our agency's staff social worker and registered nurse, caregivers resource center, shiba advisors, support groups, information and referral, counseling, legal and financial advice and an emergency cold weather shelter for the homeless.
