Mission: Today, millions of Easter Seals clients, children and adults with disabilities and their families, lead improved lives because of one or more Easter Seals services they have received. Services are individualized to meet each client's needs. Easter Seals addresses each client's needs by providing individualized service and by finding ways to help them succeed in their lives.
Programs: Employment and job training: easter seals oregon provides employment services to oregonians with disabilities and other barriers to learn skills to successfully enter or return to the working force. Services include job placement and development, training, and language assistance to people seeking employment. (continued on schedule o) the senior community service employment program is a job training and placement program that matches quality mature workers with employers who value what they have to offer. Seniors who are 55 and older are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at nonprofit and public facilities, including day care centers, senior centers, schools, and hospitals. This program serves people living in clackamas, multnomah, marion, and polk counties. Funding for this program is received through a grant awarded to easter seals national by the u. S. Department of labor. The latino connection program, funded through the state of oregon's department of vocational rehabilitation, is dedicated to creating employment opportunities for latino individuals with disabilities who use english as a second language and latino individuals with physical, psychological, or on-going medical conditions that interfere with their ability to work. Referrals come through partnerships with vocational rehabilitation counselors and local employers throughout portland, salem, woodburn, and the surrounding areas. The homeless veterans reintegration program grants, awarded by the u. S. Department of labor, provide services to assist homeless veterans reintegrate into the community and into meaningful employment. This service stimulates the service delivery systems that address the complex problems facing homeless veterans in jackson and josephine counties as well as marion and polk counties.
camping, recreation, respite: easter seals oregon camping programs provide a safe, barrier-free environment for children and adults to experience all aspects of residential camp without the usual limitations. Participants make friends, learn about and explore nature, sing songs around the camp fire, gain confidence, and create memories that linger long after the camp fires have died down. This experience, coupled with dedicated staff and specially trained volunteers who help meet the unique needs of our campers, makes for a memorable time for our campers and a respite for their caregivers. A day camp program is also offered in medford. (continued on schedule o) recreation and respiteprograms offer children with special needs and their siblings a chance to experience age appropriate recreational activities while interacting with other children, and offer parents and guardians a much needed break from the constant demands of care giving. In addition, adult programs offered in medford include saturday night dance, active club, and aquatic exercise classes.
public education and community awareness: programs and activities include the planning and improving of community healthcare practices, informing and training the general public to recognize symptoms of ill health, disease, and disability, the pursuit of other functions that directly benefit communities, and developing a supportive climate for total acceptance of persons with disabilities. Examples of programs include the oregon money management program which provides free help with basic financial tasks utilizing trained and caring volunteers who help participants manage debt, pay bills, budget, handle consumer problems, understand medical bills and insurance forms, (continued on schedule o) and who serve as representative payees for social security, va and other federal benefits; and the post stroke group which offers support through weekly physical and warm water therapy exercise as well as resources, learning opportunities and camaraderie for the participants.
medical rehabilitation/mental health: the healthy start-healthy families and perinatal depression prevention and intervention programs and the children's therapy center services were discontinued during the year ended august 31, 2013. Certain expenses of winding down these programs were incurred during the year ended august 31, 2014.
